Netflix TV show favorite for fun - Call the Midwife - No spoilers!

I would like to talk about my favorite Netflix TV shows of all time.

Call the Midwife is my #1 favorite at the moment. I never thought I would be interested in watching it. But when I found out I was pregnant, it was the first show I wanted to binge on.

I love the accent and style and how sophisticated and elegant the actors sound.  It makes the show more enjoyable to watch. The 50s fascinate me, especially their marvelous fashion sense and well-mannered charm.

The show is based on Jennifer Lee memoir, an actual nurse born in 1935. To me, that made the series even better. Unfortunately, she died of cancer in 2011. She was 75 years old!

Here are some interesting facts. If you ever wondered what healthcare in the 50s and earlier was like in England and the procedures they took to deliver babies and care for them, you will find some shocking truths here. You would be appalled by how some of these people survived in such conditions and lack of medical equipment. Like, the fact that smoking was good for you and was very well encouraged especially for pregnant women! How mad is that?

It makes you think how far we have improved since then and how lucky we are now to have new technology that without could have possibly killed us then. Further, men weren't as involved and babies were put in a wicker Moses basket with no seat belt in the back seat or held by the mother in the front seat.

Let's not forget the fashion of maternity clothing and trapeze dresses. And can you imagine some of the shocking labor instruments they used, like the one in the show... a glass enema tube?! ....and no epidural! how brave these women and patient the midwives were.

In fewer words, there are definitely some scenes that will make you cringe and gasp. But if you want to laugh, cry with joy and fall in love with the characters and the lifestyle of the 1950s, and most importantly, you love babies, then start watching!

In my blogs, you will find snippets of facts and opinions. If you have some interesting facts you would like to share or thoughts about this show, I would love to hear them!
