5 BEST CHRISTMAS TRENDS FOR 2019

Christmas is basically tomorrow.

(Okay, so it’s still several weeks away, but once Halloween comes and goes, it may as well be mere days.)

This year, as you get ready to deck the halls, or at the very least your front porch, there are a few trends that are going to make this year’s Christmas more festive than ever.

 Vintage Ornaments Are Taking Over

VSCO girls and scrunchies in popular culture are having a ripple effect, and vintage - at least for now - is here to stay.

Vintage ornaments are all the rage this year. This ranges from more simple, gold colored balls, to vintage ornaments like those cute, old school Hallmark ones your Grandma collects.

Green glass lights and rusted metal stars are going to be big this year, as well. So pack up your modern gear and consider the more vintage look, or at least fold some vintage pieces into your collection. Custom Ornaments by AlexisAnneGrantArt

It’s All About the Color

The traditional color palette of red and green, and a little bit of white, is officially over. Color pallets for Christmas are ranging all over the color wheel, depending on personal preference and general personality. There are a few this year, though, that will be the hottest and most widely on display.

Earthy tones coupled with deep, evergreen-style greens are the biggest and newest trend for Christmas in 2019. This color is particularly easy to add a pop of into your Christmas set up. Just grab a (real or artificial) evergreen branch or two from the local farmer’s market or craft store, and mix it in with the decor you already have. Instantly, your Christmas decor transforms into a contemporary, woodsy color palette.

Metallics are big this year as well, especially gold. And sticking around for a second year is more of a pattern than color trend: black and white gingham.

To Wreath Or Not To Wreath

When asking yourself: to wreath? or not to wreath?, the answer this year is most definitely to wreath. The reason for the comeback of the traditional wreath is, ironically, in just how nontraditional wreaths have become. The biggest wreath trend for 2019 is the asymmetric wreath: one with small sections of floral and other materials, and larger portions made of simple evergreen, twigs, or (typically gold) metal.Christmas Farmhouse Wreath by MandaMadeWreaths

The most traditional of all wreaths - the Advent wreath – is bigger this year than it has been in decades. Only again, the Advent wreath is taking on a more contemporary look, with white or gold candles, and strong evergreen and metallic tones woven into it.

Less Is More

Early in 2019, the tidying habits of Marie Kondo took over Netflix and the homes of many. It’s no surprise, then, that this Christmas, a lot of people are going with the ‘less is more’ strategy.

Minimalism at its finest is coming out in some of the hottest Christmas trends. Among them, wall trees made of lights or ornaments - more of art installations within your very, own home - are a new take on a traditional tree.

Trees with less branches, or thinner branches, and also trees with more evergreen and no ornaments are going to be big this year as well.

And speaking of trees, the joylessness of a crumpled tree skirt is officially a thing of the past. This year, utilizing vessels or vases - even getting creative and opting to utilize a large, galvanized bucket, or old, wooden barrel - is the newest choice for the base of the tree.

It’s true that Christmas is about the age-old practices. With that being said, though, the Christmas trends this year are ones that you’ll want to, at the very least, try out. And who knows? They may even go from temporary trends, that are fun for a while before they fade out with last year’s fruitcake, to long-lasting traditions that you enjoy for years to come.
